Becky Grismer constructs the original sculptures by piecing together tree bark that she has collected from shelter belts and the forest floor. While gathering the materials, she is placed in an environment where she is forced to consider her relationship with the trees, which leads to the ideas in her pieces. She often uses materials from specific types of trees with specific characteristics to communicate the various concepts. After each sculpture is completed, Grismer coats it with an acrylic polyurethane for added strength and to preserve the natural materials.
